Biggest. Spider. EVER!

Check out this thing:

This lovely beast has taken up residence in my rock garden, just by our front door.
It’s close to 3 inches long, which just makes me cuss with wonder every time I see it, especially if it’s “working,” which it does a lot.
@#%$!!!
I think I’ll put off the weeding for a couple of weeks.

Jesus, that’s scary! 3 inches? I wouldn’t weed either (like I need an excuse.)

What a beautiful spider! Look at the colors and design!
And she has been kind enough to reduce the mosquito population in your yard.
    Such good fortune.

    Enjoy.

Wow, that’s a big one! I’ve seen these many times in my garden, although they don’t get that big. I think they are just common yellow garden spiders. Have you seen her build her web? I think that is one of the most interesting things to watch…mezmerizing, relaxing. We had a “charlotte” type spider that built an orb web at our kitchen window one year. We got to watch her build it every night for two weeks – without having to go outside!

Yeah- she’s a beauty all right! We are definitely letting her be and she’s catching all kinds of things in that web- the buzzy things are particularly interesting to watch- it takes extra time to wrap a hornet’s wings, for instance! She moved the web location a foot over once the original web got wrecked (due to overwhelming success!) I am still waiting for a message to appear- “some pig”!
