Illustration Friday: Change

Well, I would have liked to do a new piece this week, but I have a deadline to deal with. So, here is a very recent picture of a cat who is changing out of his pajamas into his “day clothes.”

There are lots of clothes on the floor because, well…sometimes you have to look at ALL of the clothes to know which thing you’re gonna wear. At least that’s how it goes at my house!

This piece is a pencil sketch with black and white digital tone added- it’s part of a new dummy I’m working on, when I can.

Illustration Friday: Farm

This week’s theme was “farm,” which immediately triggered this scene for me. Here are my brother and I, circa 1974, playing with our beloved Fisher Price Farm set. Talk about good toys…check out the articulated cow and horse, and the little sliding doors where the chickens live! The best part of this set was that when you opened the doors, it mooed. I still have all the pieces, and my own kids found it just as fun to play with. They don’t make ’em like they used to- more toys should have open-ended playing possibilities like these! Anyhow- toy tangent aside, this piece is done in my usual real-sketch style, then scanned and colored in Photoshop, with real fabrics added in. Please note the 70’s vibe in the colors and patterns- what a great decade!

Illustration Friday: Safe

This is the first time for me to participate in Illustration Friday.

The theme is “safe,” which is why this bunny is wrapped up in his security blanket. It’s inspired by true events, and a certain daughter of mine who is addicted to her crib blanket.

The only thing better than being wrapped up in your cozy blanket is if you also have your favorite plush dog in there with you.

Trust me on this one.

Studio progress

Well, for those of you following along, we have made some significant progress on our studio overhaul. This once barren storage room is now “almost” livable! We agreed on a color (light greeny blue), and managed to paint the whole darn thing without killing ourselves (there were more than a few awkward ladder moments). Not shown here is the floor treatment, which we just finished today- a nice, flecked epoxy finish, usually found in garages. The good thing about that is that our floor can withstand the equivalent abuse of cars being parked on it- should be able to withstand anything Eric and I and the kids can dish out! Maybe the next pictures will actually show us working in here- I can’t wait, it’s been nuts with our supplies scattered around the house!

Frogs in the Kitchen!

We have had a couple of odd visitors in the kitchen the last few nights…tiny little frogs! We are at a bit of a loss as to HOW they are getting in, but let me tell you- even if you like ’em, seeing them where they ought not to be (like, in the kitchen, for instance) is a scream-provoking event. Well, it was for me, anyhow! Of course, I am GLAD to see them, too- I am happy to know their sensitive little amphibious skins are surviving on our land. The picture here is a verrrrry old colored pencil piece that did for an abandoned book project. I thought it was appropriate for the theme. Just for the record, the frogs found in my kitchen were NOT eating ice cream.

And so I enter the New Millenium…

…OK, maybe six years late, but hey! We live in the the sticks, and after several years of pleading, begging and cajoling the cable company to come up our rural street- we finally have cable. That means FAST internet, and other things- like the ability to blog without falling asleep between steps. Yay! This a mere test, I will put something more real here when I figure it out. In the meantime, here is a lovely butterfly image done in Adobe Illustrator- my idea of a new venture taking flight. Ewww…forget I said that. Too corny!
